Working From the Comfort of Your Couch
I came across this story today via Mashable that discusses how working from home is becoming more and more common these days. This immediately caught my attention, mostly because we’re currently working on the May/June 2011 diversity issue which includes everything from generational differences in the workplace to new technologies that make the office environment more efficient.
It’s clear that the future of the workplace is changing. With the advent of impressive video conferencing and remote access options, employees are no longer confined to the nine-to-five traditional job in a cubicle setting. In fact, the number of people who work from the comfort of their home or on-the-go is growing… and growing fast.
Here are a few of the survey findings:
- Approximately 60 percent of the companies surveyed already allow employees to work remotely.
- Of those surveyed, 75 percent of decision makers believe working remotely is more accepted.
- More than 55 percent of decision makers believe remote workers are more productive.
I encourage you to read more of the survey results and reflect on your own personal preferences. How would you respond to the questions posed?
For those interested in downloading the full report, you can find it on the Skype site.
