A New Sustainbility Credential Like No Other

Posted on March 04, 2011 in Sustainability by Andrea

These days it seems there are more “sustainability seals/acronyms of approval” for products, services and buildings than anyone knows what to do with. Between Green Globe, ENERGY STAR®, LEED®, Cradle-to-Cradle and FSC (just to name a few), it’s no wonder people are confused which route to go.

The good news is that there are multiple options out there and that collectively, a big number of us (and many corporations), are more sensitive than ever before about our carbon footprint.

Although I enjoy seeing these seals of green approval, it has left me wondering, “What about a seal of green approval for an individual?”

For instance, it would be nice to know if the people that create products or manage  buildings have some type of sustainability expertise…knowledge that extends well beyond any building, product or service on its own.

This idea has been in the making for over a year here at IFMA. It is with great excitement that I am proud to announce the launch of the new Sustainability Facility Professional™ credential.

More than a simple building/product certification and rating system, the SFP™ helps facility professionals play a key leadership role in creating, managing and operating sustainable facilities by giving them the skills they need to provide the highest value to the organizations and communities they serve.

I invite you to learn more about this learning opportunity at http://bit.ly/e1QWXD.

It is nice to see an industry specific sustainability credential for the facilities professional. The decisions a FM makes over the life of the building have substantial environmental impacts, and emphasizing the importance of ongoing sustainable practices after construction/occupancy is definitely a step forward.
