Volunteering
Because of the time of the year I thought I would pose a couple of questions…Do you volunteer? Why do you volunteer? According to Wikipedia, volunteering is the practice of people working on behalf of others or a particular cause without payment for their time and services. Volunteering is generally considered an altruistic activity, intended to promote good or improve human quality of life, but people also volunteer for their own skill development, to meet others, to make contacts for possible employment and to have fun.
Volunteering can take different shapes -Take working here at IFMA, IFMA has numerous volunteers that devote their time and skills in which I believe make the Association what it is today. Staff at IFMA is currently volunteering to a good cause, collecting food donations for the food bank. I typically volunteer to organize family events for the holidays because it is something I enjoy doing. During the holiday season there seems to be a great need for volunteers. I hear it on the radio, on TV and in print. It is a good time to help those less fortunate.
So – Do you volunteer? Why do you volunteer?
P.S. I found a great Web site to check out http://www.volunteermatch.org/.
