Fall Back

With the end of summer and a couple days into fall I almost feel like I have to hurry and soak up as much of the sun as I can after work before it is gone. What am I talking about? -The end of Daylight Saving Time.
This year Daylight Saving Time (DST) ends Sun., Nov. 7, and I am not looking forward to it. One reason being I will soon have to get used to driving home in the dark again. I never dug in deep to the subject and just always thought we had to change our clocks because of farmers. A little research online and I soon found out the practice of changing the clocks has long been a controversial topic with arguments from both sides of the fence such as energy use, economic effects (not only because of farmers but other occupations tied to the sun as well), travel, public safety and health just to name a few.
The United States adopted DST in1918 and since then we have seen many adjustments like with the change in 2007 when DTS was extended to include almost six weeks more, congress retains the right to change it back based on energy consumption. My guess would be they would not change it back because of energy savers like solar panels that use the sun for energy. I hope not – the less I have to feel like it is time to go to bed after work the better.
