A peek inside our world
We promised behind-the-scenes from time to time. You got it.
What has your FMJ staff been up to these past few weeks?
For starters our November/December articles are now in the design phase. We met on cover options yesterday (remember, this is the big sustainability issue). Regardless of the final pick, we assure you it’s not what you would automatically visualize when you think sustainability. We’re all about keeping it fresh.
As of today we have 16 articles lined up–not bad for the final issue of 2010.
So while our November/December issue is cooking, we have been knee-deep in preparation for the first of our FMJ roadtrips–IFMA’s World Workplace 2010 Conference & Expo in Atlanta, Georgia (October 27-29). We’re planning our first exclusive FMJ author reception in which we’ll unveil the top “editor’s picks” articles of 2010. We have chosen the recipients, invitations will be mailed and a token of appreciation will be presented to each winner at the event.
In celebration of IFMA’s 30th anniversary and the launch of FMJ‘s road trip, we are planning an FMJ mock cover photo shoot at World Workplace. Yesterday I met with Houston (as you may recall he is our graphic designer) to discuss potential mock cover options for the public to choose from. Part of the fun of going on the road also means taking goodies along. We got pins, pens, t-shirts and a traveling booth (although you will have to visit USGBC’s Greenbuild conference in November to view our new booth).
Last but not least are our mobile capabilities. As of the September/October issue, the magazine has gone mobile through browser-based capabilities via FMJ Online. The question now is whether we’d like to explore the world of apps. Would that be of use to our specific audience? How much added value would that give them? These are the types of questions we’re asking ourselves at the moment.
So there you have it. Our current world in a nutshell with an FMJ bow on top.
