Let’s Start a Conversation
You would think that being an editor and a writer would make blogging for me a piece of cake, right? Nope. Not the case here. In fact, like my colleague Diana, this is my first time blogging—really blogging. Some people say they’re bloggers but all they’re actually doing is reposting news that they read online—sparking zero conversation. I’m not saying that our blog at this stage will create hundreds of comments (well, maybe someday it could and will), I’m just implying that a two-way conversation is required for blogging. That’s where you come in.
Diana, Houston, Laurie and I (the FMJ team) are putting ourselves out there—available for you to interact with at the click of your mouse button. We will be doing our best share a little bit of our FM world with you. We hope you will do the same.
For those of you who do not know who I am, or just stumbled upon blog FMJ, let me brief you a bit about me.
Originally from Argentina, I’m Andrea—IFMA’s Facility Management Journal editor-in-chief for the past three years. Ever since I was a child I was told that I had a vivid imagination and should pursue writing as a career. I actually had my first article published when I was in second grade. It was a movie review for E.T. the Extra Terrestrial (to this day my husband chuckles and reminds me of it).
After many years of strangely excelling in English class (despite Spanish being my first language), winning spelling bees and driving people crazy revising anything on paper with my red pen, I realized this was probably my calling. Upon finishing my undergraduate studies in communications/journalism and graduate work in public relations, I worked in an editorial capacity for a couple of publications. A husband, two children and three Jack Russell terriers later, I crossed paths with IFMA. The rest is history.
Now it’s your turn. Who are you? How did you get where you are today?
Let’s start a conversation.
